I am an early riser. I haven’t always been, but in the last 10 years, yes. The coffee pot is set to brew at 5:30 AM and most mornings I’m awake before it’s done.
Early mornings are when my energy is fresh and clear. Yesterday’s successes and failures are a closed chapter. Now, it’s just me and the fireplace, my sleeping cat and husband, and quietness that is unlike any other part of a 24-hour period.
In the summer, when the sun gets up as early as I do, I sit on my back porch with a cup of coffee and just observe the world waking up. In the winter, the sun sleeps in a lot longer than I, so I stay in bed and read until the light starts to seep through the slats of the window shades.
I love watching the transition from night to morning. It signals a new day, with no mistakes yet, one where any number of things can happen. It’s another opportunity to make the most of each minute of life.
